“The Soul never thinks without an image…”
Soul and its possible construction with images – one of main features in the work of Antonio Navarro. On this subject matter we find three series: Los Matices del Alma ‘03, El Peso del Alma ‘04 and the exhibition we present in ABA Art Contemporani, “En los Abismos del Alma.”
After the success of Antonio Navarro’s work in the international contemporary art fairs KIAF ‘05 (Seoul, Korea) and Art Basel Miami Beach ’06, we greet him in Palma. The latest work disposes observation of the human beings ́ spirit during the transfer from reality into something completely spiritual; the definition of “human being” in times of barbarity, restricted horizons and fears of existence – art emerges, as often times, as the only hope of the common sense.
The keynote of the work is the romantic period (from the western perspective), the vision of a reverential exposure to the environment. This way of thinking can be also found in the traditional Chinese painting (east), a reverence for the artist who is an excellent connoisseur of the culture, especially on martial arts, Taoism and Zen philosophy.
Antonio Navarro divides the observation in surroundings and the inside. Via an adaptation of nature and individuals, he presents a new creation of scenery; extremes between full and empty, contrasts of colors and areas, and the search for balance.
“En los Abismos del Alma,” is divided in three parts: starting with a journey through the pictorial language of graphics, followed by paintings on paper, and finally, paintings “in color,” on canvas and wood.
